A six-year-old boy has serious injuries after a car hit him in West El Paso.

The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday on Carousel Street in front of an apartment complex.

Police said the boy tried to cross the street when the driver of a 2005 Nissan couldn’t stop the car in time. Neighbors told KFOX14 they often see speeding and reckless driving in the neighborhood.

Police told KFOX14 the boy suffered serious injuries and emergency crews took him to University Medical Center. Authorities did not have his condition at this time.

Authorities said they are still investigating how the crash happened. They did not mention if charges will be filed against the driver at this time.

Police said an update on this investigation will most likely be available Thursday morning.
