Some El Paso moms will be participating in a worldwide effort on Saturday to have the most moms breastfeeding at the same time.

"Latch On," is in its seventh year of trying to bring awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding.

Aug. 1-7 is recognized globally as breastfeeding week, said Latch On event organizer, Nydia Orosco.

Borderland moms will have the chance to have their little ones latch on at 10:30 a.m. to set the world record of children breastfeeding across the world at the same time.

The event will be held at Bassett Place Mall. Supporters are advised to arrive 30 minutes earlier to register.

Health experts said breastfeeding has many benefits to the child and mother. It contributes to the normal growth and development of children.

The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months of a baby's life to optimize of the benefits.

Experts also said children who are not breastfeed are at risk of infant morbidity and mortality, adult obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and premenopausal breast cancer and ovarian cancer for both mom and baby.
