Bond dropped for former mayor-elect of Sunland Park

By Renee Narvaiz

EL PASO, Texas —

A district court judge lowered the bond for former Sunland Park mayor-elect Daniel Salinas on Monday.

During Salinas' arraignment Monday morning on fraud, kickback and bribery charges, Judge Jacinto Palomino lowered his bond from $250,000 to $100,000.

Salinas has been in jail since April 9 and will be released if he posts a 10 percent of the bond, or $10,000 in cash.

The charges stem from allegations he conspired with a businessman to fraudulently bill the city of Sunland Park for thousands of dollars worth of entertainment, including strippers and prostitutes, during a conference in Mexico last year.

Salinas pleaded not guilty to all charges.
