The reason no funeral arrangements have been announced for beloved actor Sherman Hemsely, from the sitcom "The Jeffersons," is that his body remains stored in the freezer of an East El Paso funeral home as his will is contested.
Our news partner, The El Paso Times, reported Hemsley's estate was left to Flora Isela Enchinton, after he died on July 24 of lung cancer.
Enchinton said she and Hemsley were best friends and business partners, and she claims Hemsley told doctors that she was his next of kin.
However, a man named Richard Thornton is challenging the will claiming he is Hemsley's brother and rightful next of kin.
The challenge must be settled in probate court before Hemsley can be buried.
