LAS CRUCES, NM —
People filed into the ballroom on the New Mexico State University campus Monday evening, coming for different reasons.
"We're here to support the campaign for Barack Obama for president because of the issues he stands for," said Gregory Arthur from Northeast Las Cruces.
"Well, to see if I like Obama, because I'm a Hillary person so lets see if I could be switched over," said Mark Niclas from Central Las Cruces.
"To support Obama, just to see his wife speak. I really like the Obama stance on the issues and so forth and so on, so I just want to hear what she has to say and just make sure I am voting for the right person," said Phillip Viscone from East El Paso.
As varied as the reasons why to attend the rally, were the issues the voters are concerned with.
"Jobs in America, putting people back to work in America, and the availability of social security," said Arthur.
"The economy," said Niclas.
"Healthcare, definitely," said Viscone.
Michelle Obama came to Las Cruces to hopefully address those issues and also pick up some more votes from the crowd. She spoke about Tuesday.
"So I don't know if you know this but tomorrow is this big day. Super Tuesday or something like that. And my husband he's running for president," said Obama.
She spoke about her husband.
"The fact is is that the only person who can take us where we need to be is my husband Barack Obama," said Obama.
And she spoke about why they entered the race for the White House.
"We spend more time in this nation talking about what we can't do, what won't work, what won't change, and see the problem with that is that we pass all of that nonsense on to the next generation," said Obama.
