Army names New Fort Bliss commander

FORT BLISS, Texas —

A new commander for Fort Bliss was named Tuesday. 

Maj. Gen. Sean B. MacFarland will replace Maj. Gen. Dana J.H. Pittard, the Army announced.

MacFarland is scheduled to take over at Fort Bliss in May.

MacFarland served as a cavalry officer in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Bliss, and when he was a brigadier general, he was the commanding general for Joint Task Force North.

The Joint Task Force North is responsible for Department of Defense support to U.S. Border Security.
