ANTHONY, Texas —

Anthony Exit 0 is moving back, leaving more room for traffic to make it safer for drivers.

KFOX first told you about the plans to relocate the exit in June.

Anthony Mayor Art Franco said he was working with the Texas Department of Transportation to fix the exit because it is dangerous.

During rush hours, traffic backs up onto the interstate because the exit isn't long enough to handle the growth of residential traffic along with all the semi-truck traffic that stops to fill up, he said.

The solution; pull the exit back a mile.

Franco said this won't only make it safer for drivers but makes room for more business.

"It's a safety issue but most important to us is the frontage that we're going to have now and the anticipated development. So it's a short-term project but it's going to have a long-term effect on our city," he said.

The I-10 Anthony exit relocation project is expected to be complete by early 2013.

There are no complete closures at this time but drivers will have to slow down in the construction zone, I-10 west between Westway and Anthony.
