The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department, in conjunction with Otero County law enforcement and the Alamogordo District Attorney's office, is trying to catch a wanted felon who left an Alamogordo courtroom where he was being tried on drug charges.

Abraham Andres Piedra, 32, was out on bail when he showed up for court on Thursday in Alamogordo, facing three counts of bringing narcotics into a jail and three counts of possession of narcotics. During a break in the trial, Piedra left the courthouse and did not return once court was back in session. He was later found guilty in absentia.

On Friday, a nationwide extradition warrant was issued for Piedra's arrest.
At the request of the District Attorney's office, Doña Ana County Sheriff's deputies are aiding in his capture. According to court documents, Piedra's ex-wife and children live in Doña Ana County and he has reportedly made threats towards them in the past.

 According to the District Attorney's office, Piedra has been convicted on three separate occasions for being a felon in possession of a firearm and currently has seven previous felony convictions.

 Piedra is five feet, nine inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police immediately.
