A district spokeswoman told KFOX Alferez worked for the district two times. Alferez worked at YISD from September 2003 to May 2004 as a guest artist, teaching folklorico under the supervision of other teachers. YISD did not know what schools Alferez worked at during that time. Alferez then worked at YISD from August 2007 to June 2008, hired under YISD's alternative certification program.

The alternative certification program allows employees to teach while gaining official certification as a teacher. Alferez was released by the district because he failed to complete the requirements. He taught folklorico at Camino Real Middle School in the morning and Scottsdale Elementary in the afternoon. YISD officials say they have not been contacted by law enforcement officials.

Alferez is the current dance teacher at Irvin High School in the El Paso Independent School district. He's been placed on paid administrative leave.

Alferez was charged last week with a criminal complaint with one count each of receipt of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors and possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors

During the bond hearing at the Federal Court House, KFOX learned authorities said other videos seized show Alferez either setting up or turning off a video camera. Videos seized the dance teacher's home primarily depict the lewd, lascivious or graphic display of the genitals of children who ranged from high school age to elementary school age.

Federal prosecutors said they believe 65 to 70 young children, some from the El Paso area, were shown in the videos.

His trial date has not been set.
