EL PASO, Texas —

A man involved in an accident that killed an El Paso police officer about three weeks ago has died from his injuries, police said.

As KFOX14 previously reported, Officer Angel Garcia, 27, was responded to a traffic hazard on Interstate 10 near Hawkins Dec. 16.

Garcia was attempting to remove a ladder from the interstate when a chain-reaction crash took place involving a semitruck, a Ford Explorer, a Hyundai Elantra and Garcia's patrol vehicle.

Garcia died at the hospital, and the driver and passenger of the Ford Explorer were taken to Del Sol Medical Center.

Police said the 70-year-old driver of the Explorer, Amado Ancheta, died on Dec. 20. Police said the cause of Ancheta's death was accidental.

Police are still investigating the case and no charged have been filed at this time.
