LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

A Las Cruces woman who had a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend was almost kidnapped by the ex on Monday, police said.

The victim, according to police, was leaving work when her ex, David I. Pena, grabbed her and tried forcing her into his car.

Police said that the victim was on the phone with a police officer who was checking in on her.

The victim's co-workers went out to help her when they heard her screams, police said.

Pena let go of the woman and took off in a blue Hyundai Sonata. He was found by police officers and arrested.

He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center and charged with one count each of attempted kidnapping, battery against a household member, interference with communication, violation of a restraining order and criminal damage to property.
