CLINT, Texas —

While it's not unusual for kids to be out playing in any given neighborhood, Mayra Camarena says almost everyone that lives on this block has young children.

David Leon, 32, was arrested Thursday on child pornography charges. Neighbors learned of the allegations when KFOX14 went to Leon's home Friday after his arrest was discovered. Manuel Lechuga's grandchildren live right across the street from Leon.

Leon works for Clint Independent School District as a security surveillance specialist.

FBI agents, along with El Paso police, arrested Leon.

Leon's family was visibly upset after Friday's initial hearing -- where they learned he could face up to 20 years in federal prison.

District officials said Leon has only been working for the district for four months. He does not work at any school campus, said spokeswoman Laura Cade, adding, "David Leon, a security surveillance specialist, has been placed on suspension without pay pending an investigation of the charges made against him. The district is cooperating with the authorities as they conduct their investigation and will take appropriate disciplinary action, as necessary, when more information is made available to the district."

Most people KFOX14 spoke with in Leon's neighborhood said they didn't know him, but said the situation is concerning.
"Well, (I'm) worried, because there are a lot of sexual predators out there aside from this. There are a lot of kids in this area,” said Lechuga.

"I think it's bad because all of us here have children. I have a daughter who's 5 years old," said Mayra Camarena, a neighbor a few houses down from Leon.

Leon has a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 7 to determine probable cause. He is currently being held without bond.

On Tuesday, Homeland Security investigators arrested Douglas Rottier, an El Paso Independent School District IT technician, after seizing several computers from his home. He was charged with possession of child porn.

"They have to use this as an example," said Manuel Lechuga. "If he's in an institution where there are children, he needs to take responsibility."

"Well, it's something really bad. It's not good. It is good that they arrested him," said Camarena.
