2 Arrested In Westway Shots Fired Incident

EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso sheriff's deputies arrested two men who they say are connected to the Westway incident that happened Sunday night.

Alex Silva, 21, and Daniel Prieto, 20, were arrested after shots were fired at a mobile home on the 8600 block of Essex Drive.

"Deputies quickly took cover. They didn't know where the shots were coming from," EPSCO spokesman Jesse Tovar said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., as deputies investigated the incident, the piercing sounds of gunfire could be heard again. Tovar said the second shots were fired as police were assessing the original damage done to the home.

"Shots rang out towards their area, in the location the deputies were standing at in front of the home," Tovar told KFOX.

The heightened situation put not only deputies on edge, but also residents living in the area. "It makes me wonder if we'll be safe now,” Alejandro Carrillo of Westway said.

Sheriff's deputies recovered a rifle BB gun used in the shooting.

"We're trying to determine if the home was targeted or if it was just individuals being mischievous and they just randomly selected that house to shoot at,” added Tovar.

The residents of the home and responding deputies were not injured.

Investigators have not determined if the home struck by the multiple BB’s was targeted or if the subjects just randomly picked that particular home.
