13-Year-Old Boy Behind Bars On Suspicion Of Sexual Assaults

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

The Las Cruces Police Depart said Thursday they detained a 13-year-old boy after investigators discovered he allegedly sexually assaulted a female step-relative in the summer of 2007, when she was only 6.

Police also said that since the summer of 2008, the boy has sexually assaulted a male step-relative on three occasions. That boy is now 11. Police said victims of all ages shouldn't be afraid of speaking out immediately.

“Kids need to know that they can always tell an adult something. They shouldn't be keeping secrets or stuff within themselves,” said Dan Trujillo of the Las Cruces Police Department.

The district attorney’s office is reviewing the case and has not filed any charges yet.
