1 Brother Arrested, 1 Brother Sought In Thursday Incident

EL PASO, Texas —

Bob Reeves of central Las Cruces couldn’t believe what he saw Thursday morning.

“There were too many people out there waving pistols around, I didn't go out there at all,” said Reeves.

What Reeves saw was actually the end result of a fight that started a couple of miles away.

Police said they responded to a fight in a trailer park at 2200 Holiday Ave. and apparently the altercation led to gunshots. “We have determined that there was at least one shot fired,” said Dan Trujillo of the Las Cruces Police Department.

But before police could even arrive at the scene, the suspects, Marcos Valdez, 23, and his brother Jaime, 20, fled the scene.

“One of our officers did spot the vehicle pulled a U-turn and by the time he got behind the vehicle, the vehicle had crashed,” said Trujillo.

And the crash is what Reeves saw since it happened right in front of his home on Las Cruces Avenue.

“As soon as that car stopped, somebody got out of it and ran away,” said Reeves.

Police said it was the younger brother who fled and was considered possibly armed, which led to about an hour long lockdown at Central Elementary and Crossroads school.

The whole scene was a shock for Reeves, who watched it unfold outside his window.

“You don't expect to see this anywhere,” said Reeves.

There was a third passenger in the car that crashed and it was Marcos Valdez's 3-year old son. Police said the child is now in child protective services and the search continues for Jaime. If anyone knows of Jaime’s whereabouts, you are urged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 575-526-8000.
