MONTANA VISTA, Texas – The woman killed in a single-vehicle rollover early Wednesday has been identified.

The accident happened at 1:27 a.m. in the 12900 block of Montana Avenue and Hueco Club.

Investigators with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office told KFOX14 that 24-year-old Annette Chavez was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound on Montana when she veered off the road for unknown reasons, hit a fence, and rolled the car over.

Chavez was not wearing her seat belt, which is why investigators believe she was ejected from the car.

"The chances of being killed are now three out of four people that get ejected die," said Dr. Alan Tyroch, medical director at UMC.

In 2013, 50 people in El Paso died in car crashes; eight of them weren't buckled up.

Wednesday, University Medical Center rolled out a program called "The Seated For Life" campaign.

In a partnership over the next year, the hospital, along with TxDOT and area law enforcement, will raise awareness about how important it is to wear your seatbelt.

"When we hear about those deaths in the news in the mornings, it just breaks my heart to know what the family is going to be going through. But that's why we have to educate and show them that it's important to wear seat belts," said Anna Red, trauma prevention coordinator at UMC.

Deputies said that when they arrived at the scene they found Chavez unresponsive.

Investigators said they did not find any evidence of alcohol being a factor at the scene of the accident, and they do not believe she was speeding.

Chavez was a resident of east El Paso.
