EL PASO, Texas—Transmountain Road from Resler to U.S. 54 will be closed to motorists starting Sunday.

An official with the Texas Department of Transportation said crews will install new overhead signs and continue construction overpasses for the direct connectors that will be in that area.

“We do have two projects working, one is the Transmountain West project, the other is the Northeast Transmountain project. We have two direct connectors that we’ve added,” said Blanca Del Valle, spokesperson for TXDOT.

Crews will start work Sunday at 6 a.m. and open the roadway at 5 a.m. Monday.

A local business owner told KFOX14 the closure and construction is happening at a bad time.

“I have a lot of customers in the northeast and sometimes they do come across the mountain so now they have to go all the way around,” said Eloina May, owner of Eloina’s Flowers.

May said closing Transmountain Road the weekend before Valentine’s Day causes a burden on her business, especially since she delivers.

“I hope they finish faster and open up again for our business to be better,” May said.

TXDOT plans on opening the road again as soon as work is done. The project is expected to be completed in the summer.
