EL PASO, Texas - Motorists Interstate 10 near the University of Texas at El Paso will temporarily close the freeway’s three left lanes in both directions from Executive Center Boulevard to Santa Fe Street starting Tuesday evening.

The Texas Department of Transportation will work on the Spur 1966 support columns. The project will connect Paisano Street to Schuster Avenue.

One lane will remain open in each direction.

The eastbound closure will start at 7 p.m. and the westbound closure will follow at 9 p.m.

Eastbound traffic can exit the freeway at Executive Center. Westbound traffic can exit at Porfirio Diaz. The closures will remain until 6 a.m.Wednesday.

The closures will be in effect nightly through the morning of Thursday.

The Schuster entrance and exit ramps in both directions also will be closed during these hours.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and find alternate routes such as Paisano Drive and Mesa Street.

On May 11, I-10 will be completely closed in both directions in the same area from 12 a.m. until 6 a.m. May 12 for the installation of concrete beams over the interstate.
