EL PASO, Texas – Residents in the Lower Valley who were against the construction of an international port of entry that would essentially be in their back yard scored a major victory Tuesday.

City representatives passed a resolution that removes the possibility of ever building a port of entry on the border highway near Yarbrough Drive.

"I believe that the citizens will be at ease. You know, up until this time, citizens have not had the greatest amount of confidence in what's happening in our City Council and so this is a step to allow them to request something, and obviously that we do go through the process and make the effort and say lets remove it from the plans of the future," said city rep. Lily Limon.

City leaders are now hoping the metropolitan planning organization will also pass a resolution to remove it from their plans.
