TEXAS --  AAA Texas anticipates about two and a half 2 ½ million Texans will travel for the Labor Day weekend. The amount will be a 4.1 percent increase from 2012 which will be a new post-recession high.

Labor Day Holiday traffic is expected to rise during Thursday to Monday. A trip is defined as 50 miles or more away from home, according AAA. The increase is expected to rise due to the increased consumer spending and improving housing market.

Although school has already started, families are looking to get one last summer outing this weekend. AAA Texas Vice President Rhonda Wilson advises holiday drivers, "We remind them safety should be their first priority, so please drive without any distractions."

Various modes of transportation are expected to rise in use. Automobile use is expected to rise 4.3 percent. Air travel could see a 2.6 percent increase. Other options, including trains, buses, and cruise ships are expecting a 4.2 percent.

AAA offers digital travel planning resources for all tourists looking to prepare for future trips. It includes GPS navigation, current gas prices and discounts, hotel booking and access to AAA roadside assistance. Travelers can learn more at
