LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Deputies arrested a man accused of abducting a woman from a traffic stop, taking her to the Rio Grande and sexually assaulting her.

According to the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was traveling on a bus that dropped her off on the 200 block of Motel Boulevard on Thursday.

She said she used an electrical outlet to charge some electronics when she was approached by a man in a silver pickup truck.

Officials said the man grabbed her luggage and put it in his truck and demanded that the woman get inside the vehicle. She told authorities she complied because she feared for her life.

The man, who was later identified as Dimas Gonzalez, drove her toward the river, pulled over onto a dirt road and assaulted the victim.

Gonzalez, 62, drove her back to the truck stop, and the victim called for help, officials said.

Gonzalez was located by deputies in his home and was arrested. He was charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual penetration.

He was booked into the county jail with bail set at $100,000.
