EL PASO, Texas - Two teenagers were injured when they fell about 25 feet from a carnival ride during the St. Anthony's Bazaar in Central El Paso.
 
El Paso Fire confirmed with KFOX14 that the department received a call at 10:09 p.m. Sunday of a ride malfunction at the bazaar.

El Paso police said a 13-year-old boy and girl were taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries. Both teens were riding the Sidewinder when a door came open and the teens fell to the ground.

It took firefighters longer than expected because their ladders at first couldn't reach the boy. The teen did not report any injuries, but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

The ride's four passengers are supposed to be locked up in a gondola while it flips upside down and spins in different directions.
One woman says she’s upset that kids were injured at an event such as the church’s bazaar, and she blames the incident for low attendance on Monday.
 
“I feel sad about it. What a terrible accident, because this is their main moneymaker all year long. This is how the seminarians survive all year. So you know it was just a bad accident," said Denise Lambeth of Central El Paso.
 
William Reyes, a deacon with the church, said nothing like this has ever happened in the bazaar’s 51-year history.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration crews were notified of the accident, and the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Children unit is investigating.

The ride was not operational on Monday, the final day of the bazaar.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
