EL PASO, Texas – A UTEP football player was arrested early Wednesday morning after a fight outside a bar in west El Paso that injured a 22-year-old woman, police said.

Police said Richard Spencer, who is a defensive back for the UTEP football team, pushed the victim against a truck outside a bar in the Cincinnati Entertainment District.

Officers told Spencer to stop, but he allegedly continued across the street until police caught up with him.

"We are in the information-gathering stage right now and will take the appropriate disciplinary action when we have all the details," said UTEP head coach Sean Kugler.

Spencer was charged with assault causing bodily injury and evading arrest. He was booked into the county jail with bail set at $1,500.
