LAS CRUCES, N.M. --

A woman screamed as an unknown man broke into her apartment early Saturday morning and a reward is offered for any information on him, police said.

Around 5 a.m., a 23-year-old woman sleeping on a couch in her apartment at 1130 Plain St. was startled as a man entered the apartment through a window, police said.

The victim screamed and the man left without entering the apartment further, and police are on the lookout for him.

Police said they discovered the man entered the apartment by removing a window screen and stepping on a folding chair to enter a window that was left open.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his early to mid-20s with a faded haircut. He has a short stature and was seen wearing a black muscle shirt.

Anyone with information that can lead to the suspect's identity is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

A $1,000 reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
