EL PASO, Texas -- It’s a frightening phone call, targeting local doctors and trying to extort money from them.

KFOX14 Investigates obtained a copy of the letter sent out to local doctors to notify them of the calls.

Some El Paso physicians received the phone calls which demand ransom money.

Apparently, once the caller gets the doctor on the line they tell the doctor they have kidnapped their child and will kill them or sell them if the doctor does not pay the ransom.

The callers have even gone so far as to use a child screaming in the background.

Sources who spoke to KFOX14 said these phone calls seem very real and have been quite terrifying.

Doctors in other border communities in Texas have received the same types of calls.

El Paso police are investigating at least one case; they say no kidnapping actually occurred.

Anyone who receives this type of call is asked to call 911.
