Texas Oncology opts out of Obamacare marketplace

Updated: Thursday, November 7 2013, 07:24 PM MST

EL PASO, Texas – The Affordable Care Act took a big hit in Texas when one of the state's largest medical providers decided not to take part in the health insurance marketplace.

Texas Oncology has more than 130 locations statewide, including east El Paso.

In a statement posted on its website, Texas Oncology officials said the company would not participate as an in-network provider for the Affordable Care Act.

Officials said it will reconsider the decision in the first quarter of next year after the program's provider and hospital base are better defined.
