Nearly every bar in El Paso and Las Cruces will help ring in the new year with Borderland residents.
And sadly that increases the potential for folks to drink and drive.
The National Highway Traffic Administration says there is a deadly drinking and driving crash in the United States almost every hour.
If that's not enough to stop people from getting DUIs, you'd think the cost would be.
"Typically a DUI is going to cost between $13,000 or more, plus it could cost you your job and family loss. Just a lot of heartache," Julissa Morales of AAA of El Paso said.
That's why AAA and No DUI El Paso are among the organizations offering free rides on New Year's Eve.
"They call. We get some basic information from them so they can use the service. (We ask for) name, number and where they're located as well as where they're going to. And then a volunteer team comes and does a safety inspection. Once it's good and passes safety inspection one volunteer will drive their vehicle and one will follow," Joshua Martin for No DUI El Paso said.
And No DUI El Paso needs your help to keep going.
"We do request that the community become more involved, not only in volunteer aspect, but in the also sponsorship aspect on the business end. The more the community gives to the program, the better we can provide our services to the community," Tyler Rouse, CEO of No DUI El Paso, said.
"Every penny of every dollar that is donated to the organization goes directly back into operations," Rouse said.
AAA is offering a free towing service to members and non-members in hopes of saving lives.
"You would call our AAA roadside assistance number for 10 free miles. After the 10 miles go, then the person would pay an additional towing fee," Morales said.
