Traffic Anchor/News Reporter

KFOX-14, a Cox Media Group station, is looking for a Morning Traffic Anchor who occassionally fills in as an overnight News Reporter. As El Paso`s only Traffic Anchor you`ll report live six times per hour on developing traffic conditions around El Paso. You`ll have the resources of 60 Texas Department of Transportation cameras, Police websites, and our traffic mapping system.

KFOX14 has the reputation as the best news department in El Paso for good reason. In the past few years, we`ve received two National and nine Regional Murrow`s, eleven Regional Emmy awards, and Overall News Excellence awards from the Texas AP Broadcasters and Rocky Mountain SW Emmy`s. All that, plus the average KFOX reporter jumps 78 markets upon completion of their contract.

SUMMARY: Present news and traffic information on the air following the format and instructions of the News Director, Executive Producer, Producer and/or other supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
-Must be able to operate multiple computers to provide live reports on changing traffic conditions.
- Must master Facebook and Twitter with traffic alerts and updates.
- Must be skilled and experienced in interviewing newsmakers and in gathering, writing and reporting the news.
- Must be familiar and proficient in the preparation of news scripts and the production techniques of tape editing.
- Must be able to deliver news and traffic information live, in a confident and skilled manner.
- May be assigned to prepare and assist in the production and airing of specials, documentaries and the production of the news program.
- Required to prepare and post stories and images on station website.
- Develop and maintain news sources throughout the community.
- Objective interviewing, editing, clear and unbiased writing.
- The station requests that reporters make occasional public appearances during off duty hours, and at all times represent KFOX news in a positive and professional manner.

WORK HOURS: Typically this will be a 4am-1pm job because after the morning newscast is over, you get to report! Successful candidates will be occassionally be required to fill in as appropriate for our overnight live reporter.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor`s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university in Journalism or Broadcasting with a Minor in English preferred. Professional experience may be substituted for certain educational requirements. At least two years of commercial television reporting experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, interpret and clearly deliver the news in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and news stories in a concise, balanced manner free of bias, distortion or poor taste. Ability to speak and understand Spanish is preferred but not required. Must have language skills to handle live reporting, interviewing and ad-lib situations from the field using ENG equipment in an orderly, professional manner.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be thoroughly professional in all aspects of journalism. Must be well read on current affairs and have a wide-range working knowledge and understanding of general interest subjects, current events and people in the news.

OTHER SKILLS: As an on-air personality and journalist, must have that unique ability to communicate that creates for the viewer a feeling of involvement, sincerity, professionalism, authority, knowledge, enthusiasm and friendliness. Must be knowledgeable and well read about current events and people in the news.
