Mail Problems Continue In El Paso

Mario Martinez is fed-up with the U.S. Postal Service.
He told us he has been waiting for weeks for two packages to arrive that his sister sent him certified mail through USPS.
"Where are my packages because I want to know, I got the receipts, and I can prove to them that I haven't received my packages," said Mario Martinez from East El Paso.
Martinez tells me both packages had money orders inside of them, and while he has cancelled the orders, he tells me he just wants to post office to refund the postage.
"They said they wouldn't give it to me until they found the package and they say that would take from one to two years to trace the package," Martinez said.
And just like Martienez, KFOX has been trying to find out what exactly was going on with this situation and other complaints that we have received from viewers who say their mail has been arriving late.
On Wednesday, we tried to contact postmaster Felix Guerra for about three weeks now, and he still hasn't returned our calls. We also went to his office to talk with him, but postal workers say he is out of town. While he still has yet to talk with KFOX, Guerra is communicating with postal customers by sending them a post card in the mail.
The card says the U.S. Postal Service is changing and they will have route inspectors following letter carriers to check each route. They say it is all to better serve their customers.
While Martinez says he hasn't received a card like this, he tells KFOX that even if he did, he doesn't think it would help his problems.
"Very frustrated, very, very, very frustrated. You send it express mail, they don't get it to you on time, you send it priority mail, they don't get it to you on time, you send it delivery confirmation and they do not know where the package is," Martinez said.
The regional postal service spokesperson Jim Coultress did return our calls today about the recent mail problems here in El Paso.
He says that he can assure the people of El Paso that any previous mail issues have been resolved and that El Paso has the best postal service bar none.
Now, when we asked him about Martinez's problems, he said he would have consumer affairs look into the issue.
As for our local Postmaster, Felix Guerra, Coultress says that he is not allowed to talk to the media about national problems.
But, Coultress told me he couldn't comment on why Guerra wouldn't call us back about the local mail problems.
