Peace Corps Looking To Recruit Latinos
The head of the U.S. Peace Corps was on the University of Texas, El Paso campus Thursday looking to recruit more volunteers to his agency.
The Peace Corps has more than 7,800 volunteers serving in 76 countries around the world providing skills that can help others overcome poverty and achieve greater understanding between cultures.
Director Gaddi Vasquez said he's especially interested in recruiting more Hispanics into the Peace Corps to help reflect America's diversity to the rest of the world.
"Recruiting Latinos is a very, very high priority for us, and although we have achieved some progress in that area, we would like to see more Hispanics serving in the Peace Corps as we continue our mission after 45 years of existence," Vasquez said.
Vasquez added that the Peace Corps provides unique opportunities to volunteers and can help lead them into careers like diplomacy or international business.
