Power Restored Downtown

El Paso -- It was a busy weekend for El Paso Electric crews, as they worked to repair damage done by Thursday night's underground explosion and fire. The Tillman Health Center resumed services on Monday, and power has been restored to the County Courthouse.
As first reported on KFOX News at Nine, the explosion occured around 8:30pm Thursday and blew manhole covers out of the streets. Fire was seen as high as 8 feet before firefighters could douse the flames.
When KFOX crews first arrived on the scene, power was still on. But a short time later the lights started going off throughout downtown. Power was lost temporarily at the city's Emergency Dispatch Center.
The El Paso County Courthouse was closed Friday and jury selection cancelled. But jury selection will resume on Tuesday. At the El Paso Times, the presses rolled 12 hours after the power was cut, and papers were delivered Friday afternoon.
Investigators now believe that the explosion was caused by a combination of methane gas and an electrical cable failure underground. A full investigation is underway and may take several days to complete
