Flu Strain Strikes Pets
As it begins to feel more like fall outside, it's also getting to become cold and flu season.
While there are flu shots and cold remedies for humans, keeping your pet healthy may take a little more effort.
A new type of flu virus is affecting dogs, which means you may want to keep an eye on your pooch this flu season.
According to veterinarian Jody Kincaid, the virus started in racetracks in Florida, and is very contagious.
Kincaid says this virus is a mutated human strand affecting dogs with some of the same symptoms, such as congestion, coughing, upset stomach, and diarrhea.
But unlike the human flu virus, doctors have yet to develop a flu shot to help prevent dogs from getting it.
Therefore, Kincaid suggests making sure your pooch stays healthy during flu season.
Kincaid recommended "good food, such as a diet that includes raw veggies, and herbs that support the immune system. Even for dogs and cats, raw meat is essential."
