Speeding Suspected In Deadly Crash

Posted: 8:25 p.m. MST January 29, 2005

Police investigators say speed was a factor in a deadly crash that happened early Saturday morning in East-Central El Paso.

It happened at about 1:30 Saturday morning on Airport Road near Butterfield trail.

Police say a Honda driven by a 36 year old man slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler making a right-hand turn on to Butterfield.

Officers say the driver of the car, who was driving at a high rate of speed died on the scene of massive head injuries.

"At this time the investigation continues but it doesn't appear to be any fault on behalf of the tractor trailer rig that was traveling in their lane of travel.. There were no injures sustained by any of the occupants of that vehicle," said Detective Darrel Petry, El Paso Police Department.

Special Traffic Investigators are now awaiting toxicology reports to determine if alcohol was also a factor.
