There is a new candidate throwing their hat into the race for Mayor of El Paso.

Carmen Rodriguez made the announcement in front of a crowd of supporters at Tom Lea park early Sunday afternoon.

Rodriguez is a local attorney and former teacher.

She says she is running for Mayor out of love for the community and because she believes a greater part of the Sun City goes ignored by the local government.

"I've been working in community for a long time and i want the opportunity to have a more effective voice in the city and to make an effective change for the betterment of the community," said Carmen Rodriguez, Running for El Paso Mayor.

In addition to Carmen Rodriguez, City Representative John Cook, and current Mayor Joe Wardy, have announced their intentions to run for Mayor of El Paso.
