Islamic Center Of El Paso Threatened
There is new information surrounding El Paso's Islamic Center and a plot to burn it down.
Police say 56-year old Antonio Flores of El Paso is in custody for allegedly trying to set fire to the center.
As we reported Friday night, three jars filled with gasoline and lite fuses were found on a meter next to the center Friday afternoon.
One of the jars did ignite only two feet from a child at the center but witnesses were able to dose the flames before any damage was caused.
Board members from the Islamic Center say the threat does not represent the majority of El Paso.
"I believe its a peaceful community compared to some of the bigger cities and for this to happen I mean it's very disturbing to see that these incidence are happening and it seems like its on a rise here in El Paso," said Omar Hernandez of the Islamic Center of El Paso.
Flores remains in custody and is being charged with arson and possession of a makeshift weapon.
