A girl celebrating her quincenera over the weekend was shot at her own party.

Dona Ana County Sheriff Investigators are just now releasing the information.

Deputies say the 15 year old girl was shot in the back as she tried to take cover under a car.

An unidentified man was also shot trying to protect the girl's mother.

Investigators say 36 year old Gregorio Cardenas was beaten into submission by partygoers and held until deputies arrived.

He's charged with 2 counts of aggravated battery with the intent to commit a felony and felon in possession of a firearm.

He's being held on a $100,000 bond.
