EL PAS, Texas -- Complaints are up 10 percent at the Better Business Bureau, nationwide and in El Paso.

The local BBB officials said they're seeing more complaints about roofing companies and credit card companies.

"A lot of credit cards tried to raise their rates and make some money before the new legislation kicked in this year. So there may have been some practices that consumers were not thrilled with," said communications director for the El Paso BBB Annabelle Estrada.

Not only did the BBB receive nearly 1 million complaints nationwide in 2009, but consumers turned to the nonprofit organizations more than 65 million times for help in researching businesses.
