Electrical Problem To Blame For Blaze In San Elizario

A San Elizario family lost their one-story home to a massive fire Wednesday night.

When volunteer firefighters arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames. The fire happened at 760 Herring Road about 7:10 p.m.

Hugo Lopez,19, a resident of the home told KFOX his sister was the only one at home when the fire started.

Upon arrival, authorities saw a TV on in the front room and tried to make contact with the residents inside. Moments later, an unidentified 16-year-old girl approached deputies and told them she had been inside the home when she saw smoke and fire coming from a back room. She ran out the front door and went to a neighbor's house to call 911.

"She approached the other room and the room was on fire. She went outside and called 911 and she called me also and told me the house was on fire. Besides that I"m glad God was with us," said Lopez.

Moments later, the San Elizario Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the flames. The home was deemed a total loss.

Investigators believe an electrical problem in a ceiling fan sparked the fire.
