Las Cruces Man Charged with Robbery, Battery, Aggravated Assault On Officer

A Las Cruces man was arrested after police said he assaulted a friend and rammed a police unit with a stolen car.

When police arrived Tuesday to the 4000 block of Inca Avenue, they found a 19-year-old man bleeding from a laceration to his head, said police. The victim told officers he and 18-year-old Eric Luis Lopez were hanging out when Lopez hit him with a bottle and then took his Ford Mustang.

The victim taken to Mountain View Regional Medical Center for his injuries.

Lopez was spotted on Pecos Street by police. When he was stopped by police, he stepped out of the car but then got back in, placed the vehicle in reverse and struck the officer’s unit, said police.

Lopez sped away and led the officer on a pursuit before being stopped again. He was charged with one count each of robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault on a peace officer, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, and evading or obstructing an officer.
