Borderland Under High Wind Advisory

A storm system is moving through the Borderland, dropping temperatures and kicking up winds.

From downtown to the west side, northeast and all across town, strong winds blew into El Paso County late Tuesday night knocking down trash bins and part of a light at one Circle K.

"Terrible winds, and I mean, every year it just gets worse and worse sometimes," said northeast resident Raymond Cooper.

Wind gusts reached up to 60 mph on the northeast side of town, waking up some El Pasoans.

"You just hear the clattering doors being swung open and banging shut, backyard clattering, things not tied down," added Cooper. The winds caused traffic lights, trees, and flags to move in every direction. "It just cuts through anything you put on," said northeast El Pasoan Michael Hill. "I'm not used to that."

"It's cold wind," Cooper said.

This roller coaster weather has many looking forward to the calm sunny days that lie ahead.

"And then the rains will come and the flowers will grow and we'll be all happy," said Cooper.

The high wind advisory is expected to last until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Be sure to tie down any loose lawn furniture and bring your plants and pets indoors.

If you have to travel, keep in mind the strong winds could cause hazardous driving conditions, and take extra precautions.
