Man Shot In Mouth Overnight

A man shot in the mouth is recovering at a local hospital from serious injuries.

The shooting happened on the 4000 block of Lincoln Avenue near Dyer Street, but the victim was found several blocks away on Dyer. Investigators are trying to determine if the man shot himself or if someone else pulled the trigger.

Around 1 a.m. Monday paramedics rushed the victim, a white man in his 50s, to the hospital with serious injuries. Police told KFOX the victim was involved in a fight with one or a couple of other individuals prior to the shooting. He was shot at least once in the mouth.

Officers believe the dispute may have been family-related. Overnight they gathered evidence and searched the neighborhood for any other clues. A 22-caliber gun was recovered at the scene.

The victim is recovering at University Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A couple of witnesses were taken in for questioning.

Anyone who may have heard or seen anything is asked to call Crimestoppers at 566-8477.
