Katrina Evacuees Celebrate Super Bowl

They were evacuated from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina to El Paso, and they never left. KFOX caught up with one evacuee, Tommy Taylor, as he prepared for the New Orleans Saints to play in the Super Bowl.

"Ohhh, Hurricane Katrina, wind blowing sounding like a big 'ol train running man," said Taylor. "The helicopter, Coast Guard came in and brought us out of New Orleans, and that's where I ended up in the Civic Center."

From that day on Taylor, who is now a drummer for a band called Da Vizions, never left the sun city.

"This is a nice town, they love R&B and I'm enjoying spending time here, El Paso, making my home here now, but I just miss Bourbon Street, too," said Taylor.

Taylor misses New Orleans even more lately, with the Saints in the Super Bowl.

"I'm very excited, oh I'm excited," he said.

He knows how much this game means for New Orleans and Louisiana.

"The whole state is over rejoiced man, oh they're happy man," Taylor told KFOX.

While Taylor and his band will surely celebrate in a big way in El Paso, he can only imagine what it will be like in New Orleans.

"Wow, Bourbon, the lights going to flash all night, they going to party for about a whole week," said Taylor. "It's going to be a mad house, it's going to be a mad house."
