Man In Custody After SWAT Situation In Fabens

An armed Fabens man who deputies say assaulted his wife and then barricaded himself with five children was arrested after SWAT team negotiators got him to surrender.

Around 5 a.m. Tuesday, El Paso County Sherriff deputies were called out to the 2100 block of Iron Horse to a family violence assault call.

When deputies arrived they found a woman crying outside. The victim told deputies Christopher Martinez hit her and pointed a shotgun at her, said deputies.

Martinez was still inside the home along with the victims five children.

After Crisis Negotiators and SWAT team members talked to Martinez the five children inside were released and the 28-year-old was arrested, said deputies.

Deputies said several weapons were found inside the home.

Martinez is facing aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges.

No injuries to the children were reported.
