Socorro To Get At Least 70 Well-Paying Jobs

It's a nearly empty massive warehouse in Socorro on Alameda Avenue, but soon the shelves under construction will hold thousands of Bosch brake components.

The Bosch Group wanted to consolidate a smaller warehouse in El Paso with two other warehouses either in Atlanta, Chicago or Socorro. So the county had to fight hard to make sure the consolidation happened in the Borderland.

"We gave them some tax incentives for them to keep them here in El Paso, and in making sure, being that we're in a recession, to make sure they stay here and create more jobs for the people of El Paso," said Commissioner Willie Gandara.

The consolidation will bring at least 70 jobs to Socorro.

"If there's a great opportunity and a good salary, of course I would work there," said Luis Carrete, from East El Paso.

Carrete came into Auto Value Parts Store about a mile down the road from the warehouse not for his car, but looking for a job. He has 24 years in the auto parts business, and would be a good fit for the new Bosch warehouse.

"There's a lot of people who are capable of whatever jobs are offered, and I believe this could be one more opportunity to move on," Carrete told KFOX. "Right now the opportunities, the good ones, are rare."

Gandara said getting Bosch to consolidate the brake component warehouse in Socorro was so important because they probably would have closed the small warehouse that exists today, meaning not only would the Borderland have not gotten the 70 plus jobs, but others would have lost their jobs.
