EL PASO, Texas -- An accident involving several vehicles on Gateway west near the Hawkins Boulevard Exit knocked power out for some time.

Karina Chavez at Computer Experts said the business was at a halt when the power went out Tuesday morning.

"It basically affected everything. We couldn't receive phone calls and we couldn't do repairs and we couldn't even confirm with our clients. We leave to repair computers on site so we couldn't do anything," said Chavez.

Just about a half mile from the business, two electric poles broke after a crash. Police said a construction vehicle carrying a bulldozer on Interstate 10 east struck a cable that was strung across Interstate 10. Two 18-wheelers then struck the cable, causing the pole to break and fall onto Interstate 10 traffic. El Paso Electric officials said the outage affected about 4,900 customers.

"Appointments were canceled, but luckily when the power came back we were able to reschedule them for today," said Chavez.

The gateway between Viscount and Hawkins was closed in order so crews could fix the poles. El Paso electric officials said the bill for the work to restore power will go to the insurance of the company or motorist responsible for the damage. Power was restored an hour later.

"Today we had appointments on Viscount so they were affected too. Luckily they understood," said Chavez.

No serious injuries were reported.
