LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- From Old Mesilla to the Organ Mountains, snow was everywhere in Dona Ana County on Tuesday.“Lived here for 20 years, and this is the most snow I've ever seen sinceI moved here,” said Roman Valenzuela of north Las Cruces. Some of the most snow fell in northeast Las Cruces and Organ, where people saw 3 inches or more. Myron, of Organ, needed to go to the post office, but because the streets were completely covered in snow, he didn't want to take any chances driving in the powder.“I didn't want to slip around. I don't want to have an accident or anything like that,” said Myron. So he decided to walk the three blocks from his house.“I'm not enjoying it, I have friends that love it, but not me,” said Myron. The snow also put a strain on major highways like U.S. 70, where drivers had to deal with poor visibility and slippery conditions. The New Mexico Department of Transportation reported a semi-truck jack-knifing earlier on Highway 70, causing westbound lanes to be closed for about 20 minutes. Even those out to play in the snow had trouble driving in it.“As I hit the brakes thinking I was going to stop, I guess because of the ice I kept going, inches away from a pole,” said Valenzuela.
