Gubernatorial Candidates White, Shami Stop In El Paso

They want to be next governor of Texas and Sunday they took a trip to El Paso hunting for votes. Democratic gubernatorial candidates Bill White and Farouk Shami visited the Borderland to share their campaign messages.

Bill White is currently the mayor of Houston. While in town Sunday he picked up the endorsements of several key leaders in El Paso, which include the following:

State Rep. Joe Moody

State Senate Candidate and former County Attorney Jose Rodriguez
Former State Rep. Paul Moreno

White grew up in San Antonio and ran a law firm and managed a business before being elected Houston's mayor in 2003. In his political career he has also served as Deputy Secretary of Energy for the United States.

Meanwhile, Shami greeted voters at the Wyndam Hotel Sunday afternoon. Shami’s background is in the beauty industry and he said he came to America with only $71.

He is the CEO and Founder of Farouk Systems, Inc. The company is known for the popular CHI flat iron and hair care products, such as BioSilk.

Shami said he is in the race for governor to create jobs, ensure Texas children have affordable health insurance, and he said he will encourage organic farming and increase renewable energy.
