El Paso Airport Prepares For Thanksgiving Travel

The El Paso International Airport seemed to be humming at a good pace on the Tuesday afternoon before Thanksgiving.

"They're pretty busy compared to other days, but I mean, usually it's how it is during the holidays," said Yanette Carmona from Houston, Texas.

Carmona came in from Houston with little to no problems.

"Pretty smooth, the traffic, no traffic at all, you just get in, get out, and the baggage claim was easy too," Carmona told KFOX.

And Sarah Noesen with her newborn baby came all the way from Seattle to spend time with family in Deming, N.M.

"It was good, it was quick, we weren't late, we were on time, the baby didn't cry," she said.

But airport officials said the hectic days are ahead of them.

"Tomorrow is one of our busiest days, but we're really projecting Sunday to be one of our biggest days," said Antonio Marmolejo with the El Paso International Airport.

The airport has some tips for those busy days. Arrive at least two hours early, and don't forget the 3-1-1 rule: In carry-ons you can take liquids less than three ounces in a one quart bag, one bag per person.

The airport also wants you to know about two lines once you get to security. On the right is the fast line, for people who have a little more experience coming through the airport. On the left is the family line or people who have medical liquids. That's the line you want to take if you think you need a little extra time.

And if you have any questions or need help, the airport has ambassadors in place throughout the holiday season.

Airport officials said their numbers are up this year for Thanksgiving travel compared to last year. However, travel hasn't been that bad because all three local school districts allowed their students to take the entire week off, so many families took advantage and started their vacations earlier this year.
