Undercover Deputies Enter Business For Arrest; Business Owner Claims Harassment

A business owner is upset after sheriff's deputies raid her shop to arrest an employee in connection with a few misdemeanors.

The owner of Structural Steel Services, Maggie Chacon, said the raid was unnecessary because they were pointing guns at innocent people.

"That's just insane. There's no need for that. Is this the way it works everywhere. What if there's only one misdemeanor? This is the way they handle it? No," said Chacon.

Chacon said sheriff's deputies entered her shop with guns drawn to arrest one of her employees without identifying themselves. The security video shows seven deputies walking out with her employee.

"My guys were scared to death. They thought they were gonna die. Honestly, they thought they were gonna get shot," said Chacon.

Chacon said she offered to get him for them, but deputies were already in her property with weapons drawn. She said what's more upsetting is that her employee was getting arrested on three misdemeanor warrants.

"While they were just misdemeanor warrants, they were very serious charges, for evading and interfering," said El Paso County Sheriff Richard Wiles.

And there's more.

"This individual had a previous arrest in his background involving an attempted capital murder on a police officer that occurred in El Paso and our employees knew this," said Wiles.

Wiles said the tactic deputies used was necessary.

"We're not gonna put ourselves in a position to get hurt, or to allow other people to get hurt," said Wiles.

Chacon feels her employees were harassed.

"There was no need for this, I could have brought him in," said Chacon.

Wiles said a complaint was filed with Internal Affairs and it will be reviewed. If they find out policies were violated, they will be corrected.
