A U.S. Customs and Border Protection technician accused of trying to smuggle marijuana and undocumented immigrants into the United States appeared in federal court Monday. 43-year-old Martha Garnica, Carlos Francisco Ramirez-Rosales and Edgar Ely Meraz were arrested last week and were indicted on multiple charges. The indictment alleges that the three conspired to import more than 100 kilograms of marijuana, attempted bribery of federal agents to smuggle undocumented immigrants into the United States, and allow for drugs to be brought into the U.S. earlier this year. Court documents obtained by KFOX on Monday state, earlier this month, Garnica paid a CBP officer $3,500 to bring a controlled substance into the U.S. The papers also suggest last month she allegedly paid an officer $500 to allow an undocumented immigrant into the U.S.
